Clara Nonner (1849-1902) was born on 12 May 1849 into the family of baker Adam Werner. She inherited the building known as Stadt Paris from her parents, as well as their prospering business. When she died at the age of 53 due to a serious case of diabetes, she bequeathed in her will a large amount for social and humanitarian purposes to the town. The town deposited the finances in an endowment, which funded emergency housing for the poor.
The town showed its gratitude to this generous patron with a monument. The sculptor from Cheb, Karel Wilfert, (the student of J.V. Myslbek) created a marble portrait bas relief, embedding it into an eight-tonne stone block. In 1905, a bronze plaque with the German inscription: “In Dankbarkeit die Kurstadt Franzensbad 1905” was added to the monument. However, the original plaque did not last, and so it was replaced with a new one with the Czech inscription: “With gratitude, the spa town of Františkovy Lázně”.
