Description

Seeberg Castle is located approximately 5 km west of town and is one of the most visited sites in the surroundings of Františkovy Lázně. This is rather a longer excursion and is thus more suitable as a bicycle or car trip. The castle serves as a museum and offers extensive exhibits to visitors presenting the castle history, the development of interiors and furniture production in the 19th century (the styles of Empire, Biedermeier, Second Rococo, Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Gothic, Chippendale), the famous inlaid furniture from Cheb, and the history of porcelain production in West Bohemia. The premises of the Baroque, half-timbered stable, shed, and tower granary located around the castle are, on the other hand, dedicated to the folk culture, agriculture, and crafts of the 19th-century Cheb countryside. The history of the castle dates back all the way to the 12th century and is related to the contemporary expansion of the Holy Roman Empire.
