Kynžvart Château

Trip information

This château built in the Classicist style, whose history is linked with the Metternich family, is located in the Karlovy Vary Region, within the so-called spa triangle. The château is surrounded by an extensive English park with small structures. Inside, you will be captivated by the Cabinet of curiosities, which includes several Egyptian mummies.

Description

This representative residence of the famous Austrian politician and chancellor, K.V. Metternich, was designed by architect P. Nobile, who had to respect the many suggestions and demanding requests of the chancellor. However, politics remain aside during the tour of Kynžvart Château, and Prince Metternich introduces himself to visitors primarily as an avid traveller and collector.

The route of the tour includes the interiors, which are furnished with Empire-style furniture and decorated with contemporary portraits, the château armoury, the exhibit on the last executioner of Cheb, who was also the first administrator of the Kynžvart Museum, Karel Huss, or the renowned Cabinet of curiosities that belonged to Metternich, where each unique item has its own original story. The cabinet contains 4,000 exhibits from around the globe.
